How Defense Person can get PM Scholarship Scheme for dependents?

The Central Government runs the Welfare Scheme for the Defense Persons retiring from the Indian Army, Navy and Air Force. One of the ESM Welfare Scheme is the Prime Minister's Scholarship Scheme. This welfare scheme is related to the grant of scholarship in professional and technical education of ESM or Widow's dependent. Under this scheme, scholarships are given to dependents for professional and technical education. For your information, let us tell you that this scheme was started from the year 2006-07 academic session. 

Let us now talk about the details of this scheme.

Eligibility for PMSS Scheme

  1. Students who are dependent children of EESM or widowed wife of ESM and Coast Guard are eligible for this scheme.
  2. Students who have secured 60% or more marks in the minimum qualification for professional or technical education are eligible for this scheme. The minimum qualification is that which is required for admission in professional courses like 12th for MBBS and graduation for B.Ed is the minimum qualification.
  3. Only those students can apply for the Prime Minister's Scholarship Scheme, who have taken admission in the first year of professional or technical course. Students studying in second year cannot apply for this scheme. Students who have taken admission in Integrated course in which first year is academic and second year is professional course are also eligible for this scheme.
  4. For your information, let us tell you that the dependent children of civilian students and paramilitary soldiers are not eligible for this scheme.

Total scholarship and amount to be received

  1. Under the Prime Minister's Scholarship Scheme, 5500 scholarships are given every year to the widows and dependent children of ex-servicemen.
  2. In the form of scholarship, Rs 2500 per month is given to boys and Rs 3000 per month to girls.
  3. This amount is disbursed at one go for the whole year.
  4. The scholarship is given according to the duration of the professional course which is one year to five years.
  5. The Prime Minister Scholarship Scheme is divided equally between boys and girls.

Eligible Courses for Prime Minister Scholarship Scheme

Professional course BE, B Tech, MBBS, BDS, BCA, B Pharma, BBA, B ed etc. approved by government regulatory authority like All India Council for Technical Education (AICTE) or Medical Council of India. It can be applied for PMSS for admission in all courses.

Except for MCA, MBA and Management courses, no master's degree course is eligible for the Prime Minister's Scholarship Scheme.

Students pursuing courses through distance learning and professional courses in other countries are not eligible for PMSS. The Prime Minister Scholarship Scheme can be availed for only one course.

Procedure to apply for Prime Minister Scholarship Scheme

Students eligible for PMSS scheme can apply online by visiting the official website of Kendriya Sainik Board.

To apply online, one has to register by visiting the website of Kendriya Sainik Board and after that login with the help of login id and password. After this, you can apply for the Prime Minister Scholarship Scheme. 

After getting the scholarship from Kendriya Sainik Board, the student has to fill column 14 of Online Application Renewal in which it is confirmed that the student has got the scholarship.
